general information

The Nassau Hockey League is open to boys and girls living in and around Hopewell Valley, New Jersey, and provides an alternative to the more intense programs offered by some other leagues in the area. The charter of the Nassau Hockey League is to create a relaxed environment for the kids and to teach them to skate, play the game and have a good time. The key to this successful tradition has been the restraint and support of the parents in creating and maintaining a constructive, low key atmosphere at the rink.

Our season runs from October through to March. Registration takes place in August. Most of our games are played at the Princeton Day School rink  with additional regular ice sessions at Princeton Sports Center and occasionally at The Lawrenceville School.

As well as the popular and successful house league program, the Nassau Hockey League has travel teams in all age groups from Mites (8 and under) through to Midgets (15 to 18 year-olds) Try-outs for these teams are open to all members(boys and girls) and are held before the regular season begins.

A team jersey will be provided for all House League team members. The jersey is yours to keep. Required equipment includes hockey skates, hockey helmet with full face mask, shin guards, hockey gloves, elbow pads and ice hockey stick. Older members should also wear shoulder pads, protective cup, hockey pants and a mouth guard. Please email us if you have any questions, we know how mysterious hockey equipment can be to parents. New equipment can be purchased at major sporting stores in the area and some stores may offer discounts to NHL members. Used equipment can often be obtained at substantial savings at various sporting sales, garage sales or from parents of players.

ADULT VOLUNTEERS: All parents interested in coaching or assisting in any way are invited to indicate your interest on the application. As part of our insurance coverage, all coaches are required to complete the USA Hockey form prior to the start of the season. In addition, all volunteers must wear helmets when helping out on the ice. The USA Hockey coaches fee will be reimbursed by the league.
